If you want to manage your Android devices with 2X MDM, you must install the 2X MDM client according to the instructions below. Certain features require a Google account to be configured on the phone. It is highly recommend that you configure this prior to installing the 2X MDM App.

Install the 2X MDM app for Android

Install the 2X MDM app from this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tcx.mdm .

Configuring the 2X MDM app

  1. After the installation is completed, start the app on your Android smartphone.

  2. You will be prompted for your Mobile Device Manager account name (which you must have created before following this guide by going here).  Enter your 2X MDM account name and click OK.

  3. The app will ask to become a device administrator (Required for Lock and Wipe from 2X MDM Console, to set password rules and other necessary 2X MDM functions). Click “Activate”.

  4. The 2X MDM App will show you that it is “Waiting for registration approval”.
  5. Enable location tracking by going to your smartphones Settings > Location or Settings > Location Services on your Android Phone.  Settings > Location & Security are also used (depending on Android version and phone manufacturer) .

Approving the device on the 2X MDM portal

The 2X MDM administrator now needs to approve the device. If you are the 2X MDM administrator:

  1. Login to the 2X MDM portal at https://admin.mobiledevicemanager.com
  2. Go to the ” Pending Approval” node. Your device will be listed. Select it and click the “Approve” button.
  3. Click on the Group Policies node and select the group  that you have added your newly registered device in. Newly registered devices are put in the Default group

  4.  Click on the ‘Android Policy’ tab and scroll down to the Location Provider Settings. From here the ‘Location Provider Settings’ and the ‘Device History Settings’  sections allow you  to configure all of your device tracking options (location frequency update, tracking history, location update distance, tracking method and others).

  5. Congratulations! Your Android device can now be managed by 2X MDM.

    Hello!

Is there any way at all that this app can work if you install it from google play AFTER your device has already been lost?

Do I need to have a specific port open on our router for my Android device to connect to the 2X MDM platform?

    • http://www.2x.com Andreas Psyllos

Hi, as long as you can connect to the internet you should have no problem connecting to the 2X MDM Platform. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

  • Keith Marbach

I’m getting message “please upgrade your 3cx mdm app” when I click “login”. It also says “waiting for approval” but it does not show up on the web portal under pending. Looks promising but need to get past this hurdle. Thanks.

Hi Keith, can you please provide more information about the problem? and if possible the installation steps or the any other changes you might have done to the configuration of the phone? also can you please provide the make, model and O.S version of your phone?

Hi LiuLi, did you register properly by going to http://www.2x.com/signup/ and then try to activate your account if that does not work please let me know.

Hi Zoran, you can easily do so by pressing on the top right button named Uninstall Client within your 2X MDM portal.

I’m trying to use the remote control feature on the site, does the device have to be on the same network as the computer trying to control it? I had the idea that it was going to remotely control the android device from anywhere.

    • http://www.3cx.com Cecil McCarthy

Hi there, NO, the devices does not need to be on the same network. The device can be on a 3G network anywhere and the Remote Control tab/feature would still work.

      • Omar

Same problem here had high hopes for the app but seems it just won’t let me do remote control

  • http://www.3cx.com Cecil McCarthy

Hi TJ, 1) if the device is NOT rooted, the Remote Control feature will NOT work. 2) If a device is rooted but running on Android 4.2.x and above, we cannot guarantee that it will work. This was already explained in the thread i gave you in my previous reply.

  • http://www.3cx.com Cecil McCarthy

On just clicking on the Remote Control tab it will not request such rights. It will request such right if: 1) the device is rooted 2) when clicking on the Remote Control feature within the Remote Control tab

  • http://www.3cx.com Cecil McCarthy

Hi TJ, this is something related to your account or devices directly. could you kindly open up a ticket at support@2x.com so that we can start troubleshooting your issue? it would be best to add your account name and email address.

  • Joe Frank Kelly

Cecil, 2X MDM are nothing without you! Thanks!

    • http://www.3cx.com Cecil McCarthy

glad to have been of assistance… :)

  • Agustin

Hi, I´m not able to Remote Control my device, conencted via WIFI or 3G it says that “The device hasn’t responded back.”
    What can I do?
    Thank´s

    • http://www.3cx.com Cecil McCarthy

Hi Agustin, are you talking about the Remote Control tab or the Remote Control feature? It might be that the device has an issue with its push token if we are talking about the Remote Control tab. Could you kindly open up a ticket at support@2x.com so that we can start troubleshooting your issue? it would be best to add your account name and email address.

      • T.J.

        Cecil,

I think that is the issue with most of the devices… i now have 3 rooted androids and non have asked for superuser access. my problem is exactly like Agustins. how do we fix the push token sent by the website? doesnt seem to be sending.

        Thanks again.

        • http://www.3cx.com Cecil McCarthy

Hi T.J., are you seeing ‘Push Failed’? If you see this, all you need to do is to select the devices that tell you ‘Push Failed’ for and click on the UPDATE button. After the Location Update Interval has passed (Default 15 minutes) the phone will connect to the 2X MDM server and the server will request a new PushToken from the Google Cloud servers for the device. To further troubleshoot your issue, kindly open up a ticket at support@2x.com so that we can tackle it.
